Hello!
LITTLE ARCHITECT STUDIO IS ON A MISSION TO GIVE OUR FUTURE ARCHITECTS AND DESIGNERS THE SKILLS THEY NEED SO THEY CAN GROW UP TO CREATE THE KIND OF WORLD WE ALL WANT TO LIVE IN
I’m Charlotte, a UK architect, based in the amazing city of Melbourne.
When my Dad built an igloo for my sister and me in the Yorkshire winter of 1978, we sat inside it on the built-in snow seat, eating our Curly Wurlies, cocooned and safe (probably a bit sticky).
That was my first clear memory of what space feels like, aged 4. All the magic happened inside that snow house. It’s memory-making experiences like this that made me want to become an architect, all centred around the feeling of space.
Every child has these kinds of experiences – they know exactly how spaces make them feel and what they’re drawn to. Their senses are acutely tuned into shape, texture, colour, light, dark, shadow, pattern. They are also deeply climate aware and have the openness of mind to come up with creative ideas and find the best solutions.
So what if we could equip children with a language to express their ideas and help them use architectural thinking, skills and processes to design and create the spaces, places, homes, communities and cities of their imaginations?
This is where Little Architect Studio comes in - to bring children into the conversation, to teach them about the wondrous world of architecture, and uncover their design genius as they busy themselves creating architecture that works brilliantly for people and the planet.
